beyond the game
With Carina Isabel

About Me
I am Carina Isabel from Houston, Texas and enjoy watching my teams, win or lose. I am a first-generation student working hard to graduate and pursue my dream career. Talking, watching and writing about sports is my favorite. I would like to work with a sports team as their broadcaster or writer, social media member and later a sports producer. I chose sports journalism because I want to tell people's stories beyond their talent.
Baseball is America's past time and, of course, my favorite. Fun fact, a chill day includes baseball on my television and popcorn in hand.
Work Experience
2020
I joined Texas Tech's student ran newspaper called The Daily Toreador in January. I was a sports reporter covering softball, but the season ended abruptly due to COVID-19. I covered tournament previews, recaps and anything softball.
I was able to interview Jose Trevino, a Texas Ranger catcher, about the new Globe Life Field before the season was postponed.
2018
I was a summer intern for Major League Rugby in Houston. The Houston Sabercats allowed me to be a sponsorship and marketing intern. I learned about the business aspect of sports like advertising for the team and filling commercial spots.
Education

I will graduate in December from Texas Tech. I am majoring in Journalism with a minor in Creative Media, along with a Sports Media Certificate.
